Little Brother and Parental Controls
I’ve had the book Little Brother by Cory Doctorow on my shelf for some time now. (Follow the link to order or download the book.) I took it down Wednesday afternoon, when I got home from work early, and finished it Friday around lunch time. Great Book! It is part techno-geek, part political indictment, and all entertainment. It is the story of a group of cyber-savy teens who take on the Department of Homeland security to fight for freedom.
The story reminded me that anytime computer security, or Internet safey, measures are put in place, someone will find a way around them. Does that mean we shouldn’t use content filtering or parental controls software on computers? Absolutely not! At the very least, content filtering and parental controls sotware reduce inadvertent exposure to inappropriate material. They also help a user fight temptation if there is a chance he or she will be discovered accessing inappropriate material.
Speaking of parental controls, check out this information on Microsoft Vista parental controls.
